Rising Star of Asia Cebu

A boat tour comprises dolphin watching activities, visiting Balicasag Island (another postcard beach) and stepping foot on Virgin Island – an impressive sandbar that only emerges when the tide is low. Also, fresh sea urchins are especially affordable on Virgin Island, and something that would be worth a try if you haven’t already. On the other hand, a Bohol day tour would seem a tad more interesting, considering how you’d end up stopping over at the Bohol Bee Farm, Baclayon Church (2nd oldest in the Philippines), the signature Chocolate Hills Viewing Complex, as well as a chance to see the world’s smallest primate at Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary.

The tarsier is a shy, nocturnal creature, so spotting it may require sharp vision and a little bit of help from the sanctuary’s student volunteers. For an archipelago, the Philippines’ traits lie in the disparity of each island, the variant affairs that you might chance upon, and the palpable heartbeat of a seemingly aged civilisation preserved in time. Cebu’s culture, her people’s way of life, and the intrinsic, genial vibe of the community are enough to warrant repeated visits. It’s a dose of what reality could never be, or perhaps, just modernity’s.
