The Art of Packing

The Art of Packing is something that most of us don’t have a clue about, one of the biggest questions I’m often faced with when I travel or about to travel is “How do you decide what to pack?” As a Fashion Stylist I have an over spilling wardrobe, full of everything a girl can dream of owning, however I do not need to take all these things away on holiday with me, nor do I need to go out and buy a new ‘holiday wardrobe’! Let’s be honest we all pack way too much for that weekend or week away, instead we need to re-asses and think about how we can be more intelligent with our selections and learn how to mix-match a few key pieces. The less we pack of the things we don’t need, the more room you have to take advantage of shopping at those out of town boutiques we all love. Therefore with this in mind I have devised a list of my essentials to help take the stress out of your holiday packing.

1 Breton Top
The Breton top has always been a staple piece in any fashionista’s wardrobe and is the perfect item for a city break, light and easy to pack, looks great under a blazer or teamed with a pair of shorts.

2 Blazer Jacket
Smart and light enough to wear over everything allowing you to dress up for that dinner reservation or to keep the chill at bay when the sun goes down.

3 Summer Dress
No holiday wardrobe is complete without the summer dress, you can dress it down during the day with flats, add a pair of heels and voila, you’re ready to take the night by storm.

4 Tailored Shorts
The ultimate accompaniment for your Breton top, casual enough for a day of sight-seeing, shopping or team it with a blazer and blouse for a more formal affair when needed. If you’re feeling daring invest in a smart pair of denim shorts for ss15, after all denim is having a revival.

5 White Shirt or Blouse
Light soft and sexy material, throw it on over your bikini when you have an afternoon off from exploring or spending some time by the pool, match it with your tailored shorts for a chic lunchtime date.

6 Straw Fedora Hat
Who doesn’t love a hat? It can hide a multitude of bad hair days and when on holiday it can also offer a welcome, stylish way of hiding you from the rays of the sun.

7  Printed Scarf
The must have accessory to travel with, super easy to carry around, to throw on when needed, you can also style the humble scarf in many ways to constantly change up any outfit, I’m zoning in on the belted versions seen gracing the catwalk of Burberry. Or simply tie it around your neck for that beautiful French feel. Ooh la la.

8 Cross Over Bag
You need to keep your hands free to carry maps or to take photos of new places; the crossover bag is perfect to allow you to achieve this. It is also small enough to double up as an evening bag.

9 Gladiator Sandals
We all like to put our best foot forward when exploring and a pair of gladiator sandals is the perfect accessory.

10  Heels
As the sun starts to fade and the City comes alive, it is time to step it up and take the streets by storm, strutting in style

Beach List

When the only thing you want is sand in your toes and vibrant blue sea, the Beach checklist is for you. Don’t forget to add splashes of color and patterns to spice things up.

1 Swimsuit
Mix it up this season and invest in an all-in one swimsuit, cuts have become sexier and prints bolder and brighter, you’ll be sure to sizzle on the beach.

2 Kaftan
Light and soft, it’s the perfect combination to be worn over your swimsuit to the beach, add a belt for the evening and you have a great floaty dress to take you from the day to night.

3 Maxi Dress
Indulge your inner goddess with a long maxi dress, keep the material light, straps thin or even opt for a low back for the perfect dinner dress that can also be thrown over your bikini for a more fashionable look on the beach.

4 Loose Shirt
When you want to cover up from the sun, a longish loose button down shirt is your savior, it is also the best way to accessorize your bikini when you’re having a spot of lunch

5 Flirty Dress
We all want to show off those tanned legs and dance the night away in the sand, keep the material light and airy with lots of movement.

6 Wide Brim Hat
Wrinkles are so last season; keep your face covered on the beach with a wide brim.

7 Beach Bag
You need something to keep your sunscreen, towel, book etc in – why not choose a bag that can double up as your hand luggage at the airport.

8 Sunglasses
The bigger the better to make a statement whilst sipping cocktails as the sun starts to set.

9 Sarong
Seek out a stylish printed style that can be worn over your bikini in the traditional format of a skirt or wrapped around like a scarf, oh and it can be the perfect backdrop for your Instagram images.

10 Flat Sandals
Leave the heels at home, no one looks good sinking in the sand in 3 inch heels, gold metallic flats will provide all the glitz you need to step out in style.
