Hawaii’s Koele island has a rich and varied landscape. The central highlands contain verdant forests of Cook Island pines and topographical wonders. There’s no more an adventurous way to explore it than on a horseback. Guides at the stables on the grounds of Four Seasons Resort Lana’i, The Lodge at Koele, are ready to take you through wooded trails and hidden valleys. Kaiolohia or Shipwreck Beach in northern Lana’i is the perfect point to picnic. Take the trail just past the beach and you’ll come upon Kukui Point petroglyphs marked by reddish boulders. As day turns to night, wind down with a sunset cruise. Take off from Kaumalapau Harbor in the southwest, where you’ll have the best view of the sunset anywhere on the island—an idyllic and inspired ending to your day.
