Hola Barcelona!

Sagrada Familia, Antoni Gaudis’ creation, 125 years in the making and still not finished, big tip: book tickets online before you arrive as the line is really long, The audio guide is really good and a nice length to (however I didn’t listen to every option especially in the museum) it talked about the process of designing and building the church as well as the reasons behind the decisions.

Another Antoni Gaudi building which is stunning especially at night is the Casa Batlló, Passeig de Gràcia, right near the metro station exit. I didn’t go into it as it is quite expensive if you are on a budget.

Parc Güell photo DSCF4541_zps52ebd2a6.jpg photo DSCF4571_zps4e53d3ec.jpg awesome views of Barcelona, creative architecture and statues by Antoni Gaudi, if you don’t go there, you are seriously missing out! photo DSCF4538_zps14e2acdb.jpg photo DSCF4553_zpse29d4a94.jpg

For something slightly different to museums or churches I decided to go to Barcelona Zoo, photo DSCF4785_zps62cd2e21.jpg 19.50 € for an adult, it is a typical zoo with birds, monkeys, gorillas, elephants, camels, reptiles, dolphins (I however didn’t get to see the dolphins), seals- pretty much any animal you would usually find in a zoo. It was a nice day out and would be a good one for the kids.

Parc de la Ciutadella, right near the zoo, is a great place to relax, there are interesting sculptures dotted around the park, free wifi points and an spectacular fountain. photo DSCF4800_zpsfaa81a1b.jpg Castell de Monjuic photo DSCF4611_zps348a4239.jpg photo DSCF4609_zps182eb0dc.jpg You can get to the castle which is on the top of a large hill by cable car which is 7.50 € one way. The Castle is free and definitely worth the trip. I chose to walk down the hill through gardens and parks back to metro, which was a really nice walk. photo DSCF4602_zps5a032ded.jpg Font Magica de Montjuic. In the summer thursday to sunday (first show 9pm) and in winter on friday and saturdays (first show 7.30pm) every half hour after dark there is a light and music show. Children and adults will love it. But do get there early as it can get quite crowded. photo IMG_0845_zpsd5511712.jpg And last but not least there is also the beach! My suggestion if you are going to be in Barcelona for a few days buy a 10 trip metro pass- you will use it as most things are spread out and the metro is pretty easy to negotiate.

On to Food: On La Rambla, the main tourist street in Barcelona filled with tourist shops there is an amazing Fresh food Market which also has pastries and sweets galore! Definitely try one of the juices! My only problem with the market is it really crowded and can be overwhelming. photo IMG_0809_zpscb9e195b.jpg photo IMG_0810_zps77833afb.jpg

Restaurants! Divinus on Passeig de Gràcia street, was amazing, we had a 3 course dinner that felt more like 5 or 6! So much food but was absolutely delicious! photo IMG_0804_zps1f49c157.jpg

La Vaca Paca which is also on Passeig de Gràcia street. It is a typical buffet, selection of meat, pizza, pasta, salads and sushi, also ice-cream watermelon and panna cotta for dessert. All you can eat and includes 1 drink. Pretty good. photo IMG_0828_zpsddaa43cc.jpg

Nuria- This restaurant is at the top end of La Rambla near the big roundabout. photo IMG_0825_zps50c03b5a.jpg I was determined to have paella while I was in Spain, as I don’t like seafood I opted for the chicken version and I was disappointed, it was really dry and the chicken still had bones in it which I am not a fan of. photo IMG_0823_zps877fa229.jpg

Brown Pizzeria, on Passeig de Gràcia, I walked past it every day as it was next to my hostel and it looked amazing, so on my final night in Barcelona I decided to go there. Unfortunately it was not as good as I thought it was going to be, I think I just made the wrong choice in meal I had the carbonara which was a little bland. photo IMG_0829_zps8cfc4f7d.jpg

Barcelona is also great for nights outs with a lot of Bars and clubs. I only went to one club called Opium, which is right on the beach, it is massive with 5000 people capacity but it is expensive, potentially 20 € entry, girls may be able to negotiate free entry especially if there is a big group of you. The drinks are also expensive but it is free pour alcohol and they are very generous.
