The North Coast opens up with unending stretches of virginal beach and clear blue waters, surrounded by lush green hills, friendly locals and food that is an epicure’s delight.

The Playa Grande Beach Club, a resort retreat located on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic sits on a one-mile long expanse of wild, virgin beach on the Atlantic Ocean against a backdrop of low mountain forests. It has opened recently with its USP targeted to the water sports lover and those who crave for a slice of the unspoilt Dominican paradise.

A collection of buildings and bungalows lazily sprawled on the beach are exquisitely framed by traditional Dominican colonial architecture. You can literally choose your view as you settle into the dining area, lounge, bar, library and lap pool at the edge of the beach with adjacent cabanas.

The guest rooms, or bungalows, are nine separate buildings with six onebedroom bungalows and three three-bedroom bungalows. Typical Dominican tiled floors, distinct colours, and architectural details in the Traguluz and tracery are unique to each bungalow with each bedroom having a unique character.

Caribbean cuisine is put on a platter with the choicest local and organic ingredients grown by farmers with a spectacular collection of meats, poultry and fish sourced from local fishermen. As a favourite destination for surfers, body-boarders and snorkelers, Playa Grande is where many experienced water sports lovers yearn to catch a session of the big waves.

The temptation of searching sunken ships and cannons has a thrill of its own. Nature hikes, mountain biking and horseback riding is a pleasurable experience with friendly faces and the occasional peacock for company.
