At Home in the Maldives

For a luxuriously cosy stay in the Maldives, there are few private villas that come close to Cheval Blanc Randheli’s Owner’s Villa located in the Noonu Atoll and managed by LVMH Hotel Management.

Vacationing families and groups of friends can enjoy complete privacy in this 8,000-square-meter, four-bedroom abode – one of the largest of its kind in the Maldives – ensconced on its own private island and accessible from the main resort by a five-minute ride on a dhoni, a traditional Maldivian fishing boat.

Take in gorgeous Indian Ocean views from the terrace of the master suite

Judging from the hush-hush list of previous occupants comprising of celebrities, royalty and tycoons, many of whom are regulars, there is no lack of takers for this lavish pad. Award-winning architect Jean-Michel Gathy, who is well-known for his work on super-luxury hotels for the rich and discerning like Aman Canal Grande in Venice, Italy and Chedi Muscat in Oman, says of the Owner’s Villa: “Luxury doesn’t have to be plush, it can be totally understated. There are many ways to define luxury. Here, it’s all about space and privacy; and there’s nothing more luxurious than that.”

The stunning modernist house comes with a private gym with state-of-the-art Technogym equipment and its own spa for guests to enjoy exclusive Guerlain treatments in double rooms or on outdoor stilt terraces that can also accommodate yoga and pilates sessions. Bathroom amenities are nothing short of the best with Leonor Greyl toiletries specially tailored for Randheli.

The Cheval Blanc Maison’s art de recevoir (art of hospitality) is embodied in a dedicated – and discreet – team of majordomes (butlers) standing by 24/7 on-site to meet every request from barbecue dinners on the beach to water sports and desert island treasure hunts. Throughout the day, a culinary team whips up meals and other delicious nosh including the day’s freshest catch, local specialties and personal favourites, which can be taken at the sheltered outdoor dining deck to the kiss of a refreshing sea breeze or in the air-conditioned indoor dining room on blazing hot days.

revel in understated luxury

On the ground floor of the main house are the interconnecting piano lounge, living room and bar. Dressed in soothing monochromes of black, white and taupe with bursts of cheery yellow, the cavernous, naturally lit rooms open up to overlook a 25-meter-long infinity pool with magnificent vistas of turquoise sea and blue sky beyond. It is the perfect place for relaxing on lazy afternoons with one of the many art and culture books scattered around the lounges. Then as the sky exchanges its sunkissed palette for rosy sunset hues, take the cocktail from the bar and out to the deck to relish the magnificent starry night.

Two spacious bedrooms, which can be set up in twin or queen configurations, are also located on this level and come complete with their own bathroom amenities, dressing rooms, outdoor showers, wide terraces and even children’s furniture on request. The indoors meld with the outdoors to create a wide playground for young ones to run around to their hearts’ content.

The 300-square-meter master floor on the second level, however, is the real tour de force in capturing panoramic views of the idyllic island surroundings. Walk up the statement staircase with needlefish-inspired handrails and a luxurious suite unfolds starting from the foyer, living room and work desk (you’d have to be really hard-pressed to use this last one) before you reach the bedroom decked in a mixture of dark wood, taupe-coloured walls and light wooden floor paneling.

Adding to the interesting homey feel are artworks such as gold and silver dragonflies and organic-shaped vases together with bespoke furniture. Generous terraces with trendy outdoor furniture allow you to savour the tropical outdoors while spacious his and hers dressing rooms and bathrooms give the ultimate sense of grooming in total comfort in your own space.

A short stroll from the main house down a foliage-lined path leads to the one-bedroom guest villa, an equally beautiful 330-square-meter beachfront property that is a splendid home on its own. The large indoor and outdoor living areas include an outdoor dining pergola and a cinema for private screenings or a slideshow of unforgettable moments immortalised by the Maison’s photographer. The glass sliding panels of the bathroom open up completely to a decked patio so you can luxuriate in a long soak in the free-standing bathtub as if you were in your own garden – the happiest way to end a perfect day in paradise. randheli.chevalblanc.com
