Santorini

Crescent-shaped Santorini is actually a group of small islands comprising Thíra, Thirassiá, Asproníssi, Palea and Nea Kaméni in the southernmost part of Cyclades, the most well-known grouping of Greek islands with sun-kissed beaches and terrific balmy weather. Santorini is also acknowledged as the pearl of the Aegean Sea. Famed diver Cousteau looked for the lost city of Atlantis here.It is also an active volcano whose crater is in the sea!Eruptions throughout time have made Santorini a natural study of geological forms. The island is also a romantic place to wed, with the lapping pristine waters of the undersea volcanic Caldera and the gorgeous sunset as the backdrop creating the perfect wedding picture.

The picturesque capital Firá is perched high up on the Caldera’s edge and forms an “eyebrow” circling the Caldera with three other villages Oia, Imerovígli and Firostefáni. The view from most of the villages is simply breathtaking, and the villages themselves with whitewashed walls stacked in layer upon layer create a charming ambience with a blend of traditional and the cosmopolitan. The food in Santorini is the ultimate epicurean experience! Must try are the traditional foods such as cherry tomatoes, white eggplants, fava, caper and ‘hloró tyrí’, a special fresh goat cheese only found in Santorini. Equally well-known is the exquisite wine from grapes grown in volcanic soil with wineries like Assyrtiko, Athyri, Aidani, Mantilaria and Mavrotragano on the island. The beaches along Santorini are truly magnificent! The clear, deep water and the white, red or black sand, as well as inspiring rock formations take your breath away. Santorini is a treasure to be discovered and a place to be treasured.
