Art lovers in the African continent have something to look forward to in the form of the Design Indaba Festival. Held annually in Cape Town, South Africa since 1995, the festival has grown to attract over 500,000 visitors every year. This annual festival serves as a multifaceted global platform for all creative sectors – industrial design, crafts, architecture, visual art, new media, publishing, graphic design, performing arts, and many more.

In the center of the furry of activities are the much-anticipated Design Indaba Conference and the Nightscape, an extension of the Music Festival well-embedded into the show. The conference will host talks and performances by esteemed individuals in their respective fields, such as award- winning filmmaker Sunu Gonera, IKEA Design Director Jesper Brodin, architect Peter Veenstra, and Azusa Murakami and Alexander Groves of Studio SWINE, to name a few. Out on the Artscape Piazza, visitors will enjoy the various performance art and installations while live music plays on the background.

Four design films will also be screened for the first time at the Artscape Theatre. The Piazza becomes a complete people pleaser with several pop-up restaurants and gourmet street food. Another part of the festival to look forward to is the Emerging Creatives, an exhibition of 60 local designers under the age of 30 from around the country. 40 of these up-and-coming creative minds will get to exhibit in Cape Town itself, while the other 20 will showcase their works of art in their home cities. The festival runs from 21 to 23 February 2018.
