The aviation industry has witnessed a significant development in the form of Emirates and United activating their codeshare partnership. This move promises to enhance connectivity to the US and provide a plethora of benefits for travellers, particularly those in the Middle East and South Asia. But what does it really mean, and what are the benefits?

In a nutshell, the codeshare partnership between Emirates and United means that Emirates customers can now access an expanded choice of US destinations, particularly the major business hubs of Chicago, Houston, and San Francisco.

This development comes into effect on 30 March 2023 and provides an excellent opportunity for United customers to travel to Emirates’ extensive network beyond Dubai, including unique destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. Think US to India, Maldives or Sri Lanka via Dubai.

The most significant advantage of this codeshare partnership is the increased accessibility of US destinations. Emirates customers can now enjoy easy access to over 150 US cities through the three gateways, while United Airlines customers can access Emirates’ network through Dubai. This development has the potential to provide a seamless travel experience to some of the world’s most important business and leisure destinations.

Moreover, this codeshare partnership enhances customer offerings, including Emirates’ baggage allowance and baggage transfers through to the final destination. Frequent flyer members of Emirates Skywards and United Airlines MileagePlus® are set to benefit significantly from this partnership, with the potential to earn and redeem miles on flights operated by either airline. ◼
