Sun, sand, sea and barbecue
Australia’s National Day, also known affectionately as Australia Day, falls on January 26 this year. Celebrate the occasion as the locals do: by indulging in some delicious barbecue and quintessential Aussie favourites, paired perfectly with live music and the great outdoors. The Margaret River region, known for its gourmet offerings, delicious wines and stunning ocean views, will play host to a slew of exciting celebrations this holiday weekend. We’ve rounded up the best – and most delicious – Australia Day celebrations in Margaret River.
Feast on a traditional BBQ buffet at the Pullman Bunker Bay
Spring Valley lamb chops. Marinated Black Angus fillet steak. Homemade lamingtons and Aussie pavlova. You’ll be spoiled for choice at the sumptuous BBQ buffet organised by the Pullman Bunker Bay.
Set in a picturesque terrace overlooking the blissful Bunker Bay, guests can indulge in a traditional Australian barbecue alongside a selection of tasty cocktails and spirits. Local songstress Jay Le Kat supplements the dreamy mood with her dulcet tones and jazz band.
Savour the freshest seafood paired with Ruinart champagne
Australia’s rich waters are known for their stellar catch – so it’s only befitting that the best seafood from the region gets paired with the best bubbly.
Tucked away amidst the region’s premier vineyards, Cape Lodge is an upscale country lodge that features a serene restaurant that overlooks the property’s own private lake. On Australia Day, the Lodge’s beautiful lakeside restaurant will host a two-hour seafood BBQ and champagne brunch – expect to see only the freshest selection of succulent prawns, marron and scallops on the barbie.
Sip champagne as you stroll down the golden Smith Beach
There is no shortage of beautiful beaches in Margaret River, but Smith Beach comes close to being one of the best. Powdery sands and sprawling sea views await here, as well as an upscale, modern Australian restaurant, Lamont’s.
For Australia Day, Lamont’s is organising a delectable champagne brunch on the beach, with five gourmet course and a selection of six French champagnes, each more exquisite than the last. The occasion combines the best that Margaret River has to offer: mouthwatering food and spirits, beautiful beaches, and a gorgeous view of the ocean. ◼
