World-class surf, sun, and cutting-edge design welcome a new generation of jet setters at W Punta de Mita in Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit. The fifth W Hotel in Latin America brings to life a blend of Spanish and indigenous heritage, bohemian surf culture of Banderas Bay on Mexico’s Pacific Coast and Sayulita, a local hidden fishing and surfing village.

Standing in a reflection pool, a 9-foot Huichol statue greets guests along with a fleet of colourful Tuk Tuks that transport them to the Welcome Area and Living Room, a reimagined lobby. A sacrificially inspired chandelier, with 450 LED votive lights, sways to ocean breezes in homage to Mexico’s mysticism. The whimsical artwork in public spaces depicts local legends, including a blue and green mosaic “Camino Huichol,” the central walkway of the hotel portraying the Huichol life journey; and, a jungle scene by graffiti artist Nacho Bernal. A meandering path brings guests to the Relaxation Deck of the AWAY Spa, featuring woven Huichol ‘Ojo de Dios’ (God’s eye) on towering trees and Therapy Pools. The Wave Surf Shop outfits adventurers for surfing, stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, and kite surfing.

119 guest villas have private balconies and artisanal artwork. Casita-like Ocean Escape Villas evoke historic fishing villages while the Jungle Escape Villas provide intimate views of natural beauty. The 4,460 square foot, two-bedroom Extreme WOW Suite, inspired by the Mexican flag, boasts a private balcony and terrace ocean views with a pool encircling the island living room, only accessible over a wooden bridge.

Guests can indulge at Mesa1, on its own island and one of the most exclusive restaurants in the world; encounter a Pan-Asian oasis at Spice Market; mingle at Chevicheria’s for happy hour or discover all-day dining with a fiesta feel and sweeping ocean views at Venazu. The WET Deck features a pool, bar and DJ booth overlooking the beach. On the beach, six of the best VIP cabanas feature flatscreen TVs, private showers and mermaid murals. Legend says the mermaids “loan” the cabanas to the hotel during the day but take them back at night.
