Spa, trek, adventure or sailing? Which would be the best theme when planning a holiday trip? Bintan delivers on all accounts, making it a perfect family holiday destination. The island paradise of Bintan is part of the Riau Archipelago of Indonesia. Once on the islands, experience the friendly locals, pristine beaches, sumptuous local cuisine and a myriad of activities. It’s a paradise of calm blue water, sandy beaches, verdant jungle and postcard views in every direction.

From luxurious resorts with sea-side villas to glamourous camping, Bintan Resorts currently has eight independently owned and operated resorts, offering a wide variety of activities for all travellers, some geared for family travel with kid friendly offerings. Children’s menus, baby sitting services, extensive kids clubs and a plethora of activities designed for the young are almost a given. For those looking to add adrenaline to their vacation, the island offers adventures in plenty.

Adventure in Abundance

Air Adventures is Asia’s first ultralight sport seaplane offering flights along the scenic north Bintan coast. This 20-mins flight offers unparalleled views from 1,000’s of feet up in the open cockpit amphibious plane. Ranked #1 by TripAdvisor for Bintan activities, the experience of taking off and landing at Lake Lagoi whilst enjoying a spectacular aerial view of all the resorts, golf courses and pristine beaches of Bintan Resorts is not be missed! Most resorts offer All-Terrain Vehicle rides through challenging jungle terrain, specially designed with sharp turns for that extra rush. Mountain bike expedition, kayaking tours, cycling and and many more activities are on the list. Families can visit the Jumbo Park and can get up close with the Sumatran elephants. Enjoy an entertaining performance by the gentle giants or simply take a ride on their backs along the beach.

Some resorts offer the opportunity to see turtle hatchery. This is a part of the conservation efforts to preserve the eco system by providing shelter and protection for the vulnerable turtle eggs. If you visit during the turtle hatching season, you can witness the tiny creatures wriggle and race their way into the sea.

Mangrove Discoveries

Make time for mangrove discovery via a boat ride. Bintan is home to rich mangrove forest and steps are being taken to conserve this precious natural heritage. The mangrove trees with their massive roots are majestic and the water around it calm and green. It is easy to spot snakes, lizards, crabs and monkeys. If lucky, you can also spot the original inhabitants of these swamps.

Charcoal kilns, long since out of use, are still found in various places. These kilns were once used to turn mangrove wood into charcoal. Fortunately, this practice has long stopped in many places in the region. A unique way to end the day on a high is by experiencing the nightly fireflies tour along the Sebung river. Be enchanted by glowing fireflies among the mangrove roots under a blanket of twinkling stars.

Golfers Dream Comes True

For avid golfers, Bintan is an immensely popular destination. Some of the biggest names in golf have designed courses for tourists here. Golf clubs and shoes are available for rental thus making it easy for travellers to indulge in perfecting their swing. Natural landscaping with the South China Sea in background provides a striking setting as you tee off. Remaining true to the diverse natural terrain, the courses feature undulating fairways that meander through the thick forests and wetlands, scenic coconut groves and foliage-framed greens.

Art of Spoiling

After a day’s adventure, surrender to the healing hands, soft music and the aroma of essential oils at the resort’s spa. From ancient remedies refined over the years to modern western therapies and beauty care treatments, the spas at Bintan Resorts offer a range of treatments to soothe the body, mind and soul. Indulging here comes easy. With each spa bearing a unique, unmistakable identity and culture, you can be sure of a different and wonderfully refreshing experience every time. Bintan-resorts.com
