Luminara, the third ultra-luxury yacht from The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, embarked on its highly anticipated maiden voyage from Monte Carlo on July 3, 2025. Marking another chapter in the evolution of high-end hospitality at sea, the 794-foot vessel set sail on a seven-night itinerary bound for Rome, with stops in Cannes, Livorno, and Portofino. The launch, a celebrity-studded affair, signals a growing movement within luxury travel — one where the intimacy and elegance of boutique hotel living meet the freedom of ocean exploration.

Designed to carry just 452 travellers across 226 suites, Luminara continues The Ritz-Carlton’s vision of creating spaces defined by understated sophistication and immersive experiences. Each suite, ranging from 517 to 1,047 square feet, features a private terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing natural light to flood in while maintaining a sense of refined intimacy. A near one-to-one crew-to-guest ratio — with 357 crew members onboard — ensures the kind of attentive service the brand is known for.

As Tina Edmundson, President of Luxury at Marriott International, put it: “It embodies the emotional richness of travel — the places that stay with you, the cultures that shape you, and the sense of belonging that exceptional hospitality creates.” This philosophy runs throughout Luminara, from the architectural flow of its design to the curated cultural experiences on board.

Inside Luminara: A Mediterranean-Inspired Voyage

Among the vessel’s standout features is its art collection — 731 works in total — which weaves together light, sea, and cultural heritage. Many pieces draw inspiration from Malta’s layered history, including nods to knights’ armour, lighthouses, and local fauna. Iconic names such as Paul Klee, Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse, and Gerhard Richter appear alongside emerging voices, with artworks integrated seamlessly into the yacht’s spatial design.

The focus on art is complemented by a culinary program that is intentionally intimate — five distinctive venues, each with a strong narrative. Seta su Luminara by Fabio Trabocchi delivers a refined tasting menu inspired by the spice routes of Venice, while Michael Mina’s Beach House brings a Mediterranean-meets-Middle East concept rooted in his Egyptian heritage. Other options include Haesu Bit, offering an eclectic mix of Asian cuisines; Azur, which focuses on regional Mediterranean dishes; and Mistral, a grill-forward tribute to coastal dining. The Art Bar blends destination-inspired treats with Cycladic design and sweeping sea views.

Recreation and relaxation are central to the onboard experience. Deck 10 features a panoramic pool area with two whirlpools, while The Ritz-Carlton Spa® offers signature treatments using leading wellness brands. However, it’s the Marina Terrace and Marina Beach that perhaps most embody Luminara’s ethos — a direct connection to the ocean. When anchored in select destinations, a floating lounge with a central pool unfolds at sea level, offering everything from paddleboarding and kayaking to electric foiling. It’s here, with the sea at your feet and no horizon in sight, that the yacht’s vision comes alive.

Retail on board further extends the sense of exclusivity. Cartier, IWC Schaffhausen, and Piaget are among the names represented, along with curated boutiques featuring limited-edition pieces from Hermès, Chanel, Johanna Ortiz, and La DoubleJ.

Luminara joins Evrima and Ilma as part of The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, which has steadily positioned itself at the forefront of the luxury cruise landscape. It also arrives at a time when other high-end hospitality brands are expanding into yachting. From Silversea’s Silver Endeavour and Ponant’s elegant Le Ponant to Aman’s new Arabian sea yacht, Sama, the concept of luxury at sea is evolving — smaller ships, deeper experiences, and greater attention to place and culture.

After its Mediterranean debut, Luminara will head to Asia-Pacific, with bookings opening for December 2025. Destinations include Hạ Long Bay, Osaka, and Bangkok — cities that reflect the yacht’s emphasis on immersive travel and cultural storytelling. In May 2026, the journey continues to Alaska and Canada, where travellers will encounter remote coastlines, wildlife, and vast glacial landscapes.

As reported by World Travel Magazine, Luminara doesn’t just promise luxury — it extends an invitation to slow down, look outward, and engage with the world’s most beautiful destinations in a new way. At sea, where time drifts and light moves differently, the true luxury is not in excess — it’s in the freedom to feel. ◼
