The word ‘tribe’ evokes a sense of belonging and family. Depicting these attributes beautifully is the luxurious boutique hotel, Tribe, in Nairobi, Kenya. Welcoming guests since 2008, Tribe has gained a following among many distinguished travellers, drawn to its vibrant contemporary African style in an otherwise architecturally staid area.

Born out of labour of love from hotelier Shahim Ehsani, his family and partners, Tribe was created to refl ect a wholly African experience with distinct urban texture. The hotel also refl ects the personal touch of Ehsani’s family who curate a collection of over 900 African artefacts featured prominently throughout the hotel. His uncle, Mehraz Ehsani, was the architect du jour, collaborating with interior designer, Les Harbottle to create an atmosphere of culture and grandeur. Tribe is bathed in warmth, from its public spaces to theguest rooms, with its polished dark wood and lavish granite interiors complete with high ceilings and soft ambient lighting. Breezy wicker furniture blends seamlessly with plush modern sofas while African art lovingly adorns every nook. Guests have a choice of room types, from an essential deluxe room to a glamorous two-level penthouse. It is not often that a hotel has as much character as it does style, making Tribe a must-stay when in Nairobi
